Cons of MediaTek Helio P60 Smartphone
The MediaTek MTK Helio P60 is actually an attractive chipset for 2018/2019 smartphones. It has high performance while relatively low cost. However, you should pay notice that almost all MediaTek chipset has one major flaw: There are almost NO OS upgrade.
Smartphones running on the Snapdragon chipset usually receive OS upgrade faster – Some old Android 6 Marshmallow smartphones in 2015/2016 has got OS upgrade to Android 7 Nougat or even Android 8 Oreo.
Here is a comment from an angry guy:
to make it worse mediatek never honor the GPL rules that android manufacturer must ALWAYS release their Source code to public, My Redmi note 3 pro already stuck at marsmallow but thanks to Xiaomi released the source code, Lineage (previously cyanogen) can continue the development of this model and now i ran Nougat, pending OREO once it matured enough.
I will not buy any expensive (read: high end) mediatek product unless they improve their support for android and release their source code. I will only buy their cheapest model because i don’t care if their device got spoilt as i bought them cheaply so i don’t get heart pain if the thing spoilt.Blue Toast
However, we are seeing more manufacturers offering OS Upgrade to Android 8 Oreo or higher recently. We hope the situation improves in 2019.back to menu ↑
Helio P60 Alternatives
The MediaTek Helio P60 platform faces huge competition.
Alternative #1: Older flagship chipsets
It is squeezed by the older flagship chipsets such as Qualcomm Snapdragon 820/821 (2016), 835/845 (2017), Helio X23/X25/X27 (2015-2017). Smartphones with these old chipsets have cheaper price but they are still performing very well on Android 8 or Android 9 OS.
Alternative #2: Chipsets with similar performane with Helio P60
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 6-series is a major rivals to Helio P60. The Snapdragon 630/636/660 in 2017, and Snapdragon 632/670/675 in 2018 have very similar performance and price.

P60 vs SD710
MTK Helio P60 vs Qualcomm Snapdragon 710
If the Helio P60 smartphone you are checking has a huge price gap with the Snapdragon 710 smartphone, you may consider it. Otherwise, always get the latest chipset.
Comparing the Graphic Performance, the Snapdragon 710 has a boost of 35% on graphics than Snapdragon 660. You need to know that the 660 already is superior than Helio P60. Thus the Snapdragon 710 has a great advantage.
In terms of Efficiency, the 710 is still better because the production process is more advanced (10nm fabrication).
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 should be a clear winner because it is a newer generation of chipset.back to menu ↑
P60 vs SD675
MTK Helio P60 vs Qualcomm Snapdragon 670/675
The Snapdragon 675 are yet to be released as we publish this article, but we anticipate a clear win over the P60.
By just comparing the factsheet between them, the SD675 will be on a newer generation of processor (Cortex-A76 / A55 and 11nm fabrication).
Helio P60 should also behind Snapdragon 670. There are rumors about the Helio P80/P90 will be aiming at the Snapdragon 670.
If price is your main concern and you need a smartphone right away, we still recommend to get the Helio P60 smartphone for its good performance for money.back to menu ↑
P60 vs SD660
MTK Helio P60 vs Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 (and 630, 636) in 2017
Among the 3 variants (630/636/660) of Qualcomm Snapdragon 6-series in 2017, the 660 platform has the best hardware according to Wikipedia.
|Battery life||Helio P60|
Tech guys on Quora mostly agree the above comparison: MTK Helio P60 is built with 12nm fabrication which is better than the 14nm fabrication on Qualcomm Snapdragon 660. It makes the Helio P60 more energy efficient.
On the other hand, graphics performance is better with Snapdragon 660 because the GPU processor is faster (850MHz Adreno 512), comparing to the (800MHz ARM Mali-G72 MP3) on Helio P60.

P60 vs SD626
MTK Helio P60 vs Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 (and 625, 617) in 2016
If you are still with me, in the section just above, we can see that Helio P60 is a clear winner when comparing to the Snapdragon 653.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 is an even older chipset than the 653 so the conclusion is no brainer: MediaTek Helio P60 wins over the Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 (and also 625, 617).
I find this comment neat and clear:
P60 vs X30
MTK Helio P60 vs MTK Helio X30 & X27/X25/X23
Helio P60 is a high-end Mid range chipset. It has less performance than the Helio X30 from the same manufacturer.
You should get the X30 smartphone when prices are similar. However, there are very few devices with the Helio X30. The most notable one is Meizu Pro 7 Series.
On the other hand, The X27/X25/X23 series are out-dated. You should simply ignore smartphones with Helio X27/X25/X23 chipsets.

Generally you should get the P60, unless the SD850 phone is at bargain sale.
P60 vs SD821
MTK Helio P60 vs Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 (and 820) in 2016
The Snapdragon 821 mobile platform was released in 2016 as a flagship by Qualcomm. It is an outdated chipset but is still comparable to the Helio P60 in 2018.
Since the Helio P60 is a current product, we recommend getting the Helio P60 unless there is a bargain sale in Snapdragon 821 smartphones, such as Oneplus 3T or Google Pixel.
|Helio P60||Snapdragon 821|
|Processor Cores||4 + 4 Cores||2 + 2 Cores|
|Maximum Core Speed||2.0 GHz||1.363 ~2.342 GHz, varies by core|
